Fáilte go Rang 6

(Mrs Byrne)

On a very wet Thursday we went to Marymount to plant  bulbs in the grounds of the Hospice. We worked hard despite the weather and hope that the daffodils will provide a cheerful sight in the Spring. Thanks to all the parents who provided lifts and support.

On Friday 25th October we celebrated in advance of Halloween. We dressed up, played Halloween games and carved pumpkins.

Tá súil againn go mbainfidh sibh go léir sult as féile Oíche Shamhna.

FEBRUARY 2014

We are busy preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Our Ceremony of Light takes place this Wednesday 12th Feb in St James' Church. We have chosen our Confirmation names and we completed projects on why we chose them.

We made figures using cardboard, balloons and pâpier mâché. They have names and identities!

  World War One 1914 - 1918

As this is the centenary of the start of the First World war, we have been studying it in History. We have looked at the causes,  the countries involved, Trench Warfare and the sinking of the Lusitania near Kinsale. We completed group projects on The Great War and found out lots of fascinating information. We wrote letters like those which were written from the trenches, we found out about Trench Foot and Trench Mouth(eeww!).

Lá Fhéile Phádraig

Bhí spraoi againn sa chlós chun Lá Fhéile Phádraig a cheiliúradh. B'iontach iad na rinnceoirí as Rang a Sé!

Scala Retreat

In preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation we spent a day in Scala, Blackrock. It was a wonderful day. We talked about Confirmation and the Holy Spirit's Gifts to us. We had games, songs and ended with a mass, which we prepared and included drama, readings and prayers. Thank you to all the staff at Scala, and especially Fiona O'Broin who worked so hard to made it such a special day.

Brazil

We studied Brazil in Geography, as we are going to be hearing a lot about it with the World Cup and the next Olympics being held there. It was really interesting to find out about the Amazon Rain Forest, Rio De Janeiro and we were particularly interested in the favellas where life is very difficult. We also enjoyed learning about Mardi Gras. We decorated Mardi Gras masks and painted colourful toucans.

Confirmation Day

Rang a Sé received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Friday 4th April 2014. We had been practising  and preparing for this.Bishop John Buckley performed the ceremony with Fr. Declan and Canon Linehan. The church looked fantastic with all our artwork. The singing, music, readings and prayers were flawless and we had a lovely party afterwards in the GAA hall, thanks to the Parents' Association.

Spraoi

One of the most enjoyable activities we  have done this year has been Project Spraoi with Lisa Delaney. We love getting out of the classroom for our Huff and Puff sessions. We enjoy the games (sometimes making up our own rules!). Lisa has also spoken to us about nutrition, we had a really interesting talk about the amount of sugar in some of the drinks we like.

Writing our own Books

We worked in groups, taking a character each, and wrote a book. The most popular ideas were detective stories and thrillers.
